As we right this review, unable to leave our Nebraska home due to an ice storm making travel treacherous, our memories of our 10 day stay at ROJO Coffee plantation are being relived through the awesome pictures of the sunsets taken from the driveway, the beautiful view of Honaunau Bay from the living room window, the fun days lounging on the deck or in the pool, and the crisp nights spent star gazing. Each morning we enjoyed delicious ROJO coffee and fruit, i.e., bananas, tangerines, oranges, papaya, passion fruit, avocados, either left on the doorstep by Roy, or picked on our morning walks. Each evening we snacked on macadamia nuts, from the tree located right at the edge of the driveway, or fresh made guacamole, as we star gazed. Since ROJO coffee plantation is located on a mountain side, overlooking Honaunau Bay, finding the home initially would have been difficult, but Roy meets you on the highway to lead you into paradise! Once we arrived, Joy provided a tour of the home and its grounds, to include her meticulous kept vegetable gardens. The home is cozy and equipped with everything you need for cooking, grilling, laundry, and showering. Roy and Joy also provide snorkel equipment, beach towels, and information on all the island attractions. WiFi worked great and was easy to connect to. During our stay, we enjoyed many conversations with Roy and Joy, over shared meals, a tutorial on the making of really good coffee, and an afternoon in the pool. Our last day was spent snorkeling at Two Steps beach, which Roy and Joy expertly guided. When you stay at ROJO Coffee plantation you gain a true insight of all that the Big Island of Hawaii has to offer, which Roy and Joy enthusiastically shared with us. Leaving this beautiful place and our new friends was the only difficulty we experienced. Roy and Joy, the invitation to visit us in Nebraska and to show you the "sea of corn fields" awaits. We only hope that we can provide the same wonderful hospitality shown to us in Hawaii, when you visit us in Nebraska! Moce, George, Gail, Chad, and Kevin

We had the best experience with Roy and Joy for our vacation on Big Island. The place is a large farm on the hill in Captain Cook, less than 1 mile from highway 11. So you are easy to get to a lot of good dive/snorkeling spots (Two Steps, Captain Cook monument, Manta Ray Night Snorkeling place, etc), beaches and national parks on the west side. Also you can have a secluded quiet time with yourself on the balcony reading books and sipping wines. The farm is as beautiful as the pics show. And the house is spacious, well-decorated, full-of-equipment, and comfortable for the party of six of us. There are so many produce grown on the farm, that we get to eat fresh fruits everyday from what Roy and Joy bring to us. The view from both the house and the farm are spectacular. And we get to see the brightest stars and the galaxy at night. Roy and Joy are both easy-going, passionate, helpful, knowledgeable, and generous. They grow the best kona coffee on their farm and we love it in the morning and buy a bunch of them before we go home. They also are professional divers who take tours of kayaking and snorkeling near Captain Cook Monument in their spare time. We had the most amazing kayaking and snorkeling tour with them, even our parents in their sixties had no problem doing the whole trip and really enjoying it. Since Joy is from Beijing, and Roy has been to China like millions of times, we get to have great conversations with them everyday. Our parents can speak mandarin with Joy and we talk to Roy about China and other things we both are interested in. We also have wonderful dinners with them in the house, sometimes we cook, sometimes they cook, and one time Roy made New York Steaks for us and that was very memorable. After spending all this time with them, we became good friends. But if you are looking to have a secluded vacation, they can be staying at their house on the other side of the farm and letting you enjoy the house by yourself too. So here you get whatever you desire on your vacation, with your own choice. We would definitely recommend ( already did) Roy and Joy's place to our friends. This is the best airbnb and family vacation experience we ever had.
